Best Class A RV For Couples. Here Is A List Of Our Top 6

Class A Motorhome

As Kellie and I keep thinking about the transition from weekenders to a more full time RV role, we decided to do some research on the best Class A RV for couples. We have been throwing the idea around for awhile. A drivable RV is what we have been wanting, and we have already eliminated the Class B from our list. Class C’s are nice and would provide everything we would need. We just aren’t too crazy about the bunk overhanging the cab. The panoramic views from the windshield of a Class A is more what we are looking for. The drive to your destination is all part of the journey and we want to be able to see the beauty of the countryside unobstructed. So, what is the best Class A RV for couples? Let’s take a look at a few.

What Is A Class A RV?

Class A RVs are the largest of all RVs. I referred to Class As as the “rock star RV” in a previous post, Different Classes of RVs. They are available with either a gas or diesel engine and usually sleep 8 to 10 people. You’ve probably seen these beasts pulling into a park and wondered what rock star just showed up. These types of RVs really pack the horsepower you will need if you are planning on towing a vehicle behind you.

Thor Axis 24.1

Let’s start off with one of the smallest Class A’s out there. The Thor Axis 24.1. It is considered an RUV, which stands for Recreational Utility Vehicle. Although small, this RV has alot to offer. It is built on a Ford E-Series chassis, with a 7.3L V8 gas powered engine.

Some key features are a power privacy shade on the windshield, bedroom USB charging station, and a double door refrigerator. These have to be our favorite features. Most RVs this size have the small apartment size fridges. We also like the pedestal table in front of the sofa. Working from “home” is going to be the norm and we will have to have plenty of room. The dinettes we have seen are just a tad too small for our needs.

Other features include:

  • GVWR – 18,500 lbs
  • Total Length – 25’6″
  • Interior Height – 6’3″
  • 17′ Powered Awning
  • 55 Gallon Fuel Tank
  • Hitch Rating – 8,000 Pounds

The split twin bed/king conversion is the biggest drawback for us. I’m not sure just how comfortable the conversion part would be.

ALL NEW! The 2-in-1 Cobra Road Scout Elite - a high-definition dash cam and highly accurate radar and laser detection system all in one.

Coachmen Pursuit 27DS

Like the Thor Axis, The Coachmen Pursuit 27DS is powered by 7.3L gas engine. This RV is built on a Ford F-53 chassis and is slightly longer than the Axis.

Some of the key features include a slide out King bed, which I like better than the conversion in the Axis, and the computer workstation on the passenger side. This RV has the option of sofa or theater seating too. We prefer the theater seating across form the TV. We’ve never had a TV in any of our RVs but we know we want to be across from one.

Other features include:

  • Outdoor TV
  • GVWR – 16,000 Pounds
  • Total Length – 28’9″
  • 20′ Powered Awning
  • 80 Gallon Fuel Tank
  • Hitch Rating – 8,000 Pounds

The two drawbacks for us are the dropdown bunk over the seats and the TV outside. We would never use either one of those.

Fleetwood Flair 28A

Third in our list is the Fleetwood Flair 28A. This RV is built on a Ford F-53 chassis and contains the 7.3L gas powered engine pushing 350HP.

Some of the key features include a porcelain toilet, standard, and a metal shower head, also standard. This RV also has the exterior TV as well as a doggy window on the passenger side. This RV also has the optional theater seating across from the dinette and a pedestal table behind the driver and passenger seats.

Other features include:

  • GVWR – 16,000 Pounds
  • Hitch Rating – 8,000 Pounds
  • Total Length – 29’3″
  • Exterior Mounted Side View Cameras
  • 80 Gallon Fuel Tank
  • Outdoor TV

The two drawbacks for us would be the exterior TV, again, and the side swing basement doors.

Georgetown Forest River 31B3

The Georgetown Forest River is a slightly larger Class A motor-home. It sits on a Ford F-Series Super Duty chassis and is powered by a Triton 6.8L, V-10 gas engine. Some of the key features in this RV are a 3 burner stove with oven, powered front and rear levelers, and a corner shower with glass/plastic doors. We have the corner shower in our Kodiak and absolutely love the glass/plastic shower door.

Other features include:

  • GVWR – 18,000 Pounds
  • Towing Capacity – 5,000 Pounds
  • Total Length – 32′
  • 80 Gallon Fuel Tank
  • 20′ Power Retractable Awning
  • Mid-Size Fridge

The drawbacks for us would be there is no theater seat option, and the additional bunkhouse. For our needs, the bunkhouse would need to be office space. There is however a passenger side workstation, which is a plus.

We are nearing the end of this Best Class A RV for Couples list but we still have a few great RVs to feature. Next up in the list is,

Jayco Alante 26X

The Jayco Alante has many features and available options that Kellie and I are looking for. It sits on a Ford F-Series Super Duty chassis and like the Forest River, is powered by a Triton 6.8L, V-10 gas engine. Some of our favorite key features are the optional overhead bunk, which we would not need, the theater seating option, and the cockpit table. It has a 3 burner stove, with oven, and a mid-size fridge. This RV also comes standard with a Garmin GPS system for those of us who tend to get lost.

Other features include:

  • GVWR – 16,000 Pounds
  • Towing Capacity – 5,000 Pounds
  • Total Length – 28’6″
  • 80 Gallon Fuel Tank
  • 13′ Powered Awning
  • Outdoor TV

The drawbacks for us would be the exterior TV again and the short awning. Another drawback is the bedroom TV is optional, not standard.

Winnebago Intent 28Y

Last but certainly not least is the Winnebago Intent. This rig sits on a Ford F-Series Super Duty chassis and is powered once again by the Triton 6.8L, V-10 gas engine. This RV has a ton of bells and whistles. The driver’s seat swivels around the steering wheel, and both front seats have a lumbar support and dual arm rests for those long trips. The stove is a 3 burner with oven and it has a residential refridgerator.

Other features include:

  • GVWR – 18,000 Pounds
  • Towing Capacity – 5,000 Pounds
  • Total Length – 28’9″
  • 80 Gallon Fuel Tank
  • 21′ Powered Awning
  • Tailgate Package, includes TV, mini fridge, bottle opener, etc

The main drawbacks for us would be the fact that there is no sofa seating and the studio loft bed above the front seats.
