Whether you are new to RVing or a seasoned full-timer, we all tend to ask some of the same questions. I have seen a question asked several times over the past few months, “What are the best RV gadgets you can buy?”. The question is relative to the individual and what their needs are. Some might think that the best gadgets would be a set of walkie talkie radios. Others might suggest a couple of comfortable reclining lawn chairs to relax by the campfire.
When it comes to gizmos and gadgets I get really excited. I get a kick out of finding all the super cool RV gadgets folks are picking up for their campers. I can spend endless hours online reading about the great new products that are out there. Let’s jump in and see what’s in this list…
Reader’s Favorite RV Gadgets
1. Counter-Top Ice Maker
Of all the RV gadgets in this list, the counter-top ice maker has to be the most popular item. These ice makers are capable of making up to 26 pounds of ice in 24 hours. I would have to agree that if you have the need for tons of ice, this would be the best purchase for your RV. The best part of it is it fits on the counter-top or under your canopy on a small table.
2. Instant Pot
RVers love Instant Pots. We use a small crock-pot on occasion in our RV. The newest cooking gadget is an Instant-Pot. These allow you to pressure cook your food and increase cooing time by up to 70%. As someone who likes to eat, I can see where this would come in handy.
3. Motion Sensor Lights
This is a great idea and one of my favorite RV gadgets. Most RV pantries are very poorly lit. These battery powered lights will turn on when you stick your hand on the shelf. I watched a great video by Greg from diyrvhome.com where he replaced his battery powered lights with 12V lights. It’s a great video. You can watch it here.
4. RV Toilet Paper
I’m not sure toilet paper is really an RV gadget, but it tops the list of favorites. I can see why it is towards the top of the list.
5. RV GPS
This particular model comes with KOA campgrounds and RV parks and services. There are several free phone apps that offer the same benefits for a fraction of the cost. Google maps isn’t a very good navigator because it doesn’t know you are in an RV or pulling a huge 5th wheel.
6. RV Generator
Another very popular RV gadget is an RV generator. Kellie and I have a Champion generator for our house but it’s not very practical to load and unload. It is VERY heavy and VERY loud. There are several smaller, quieter options available depending on your needs. A very popular generator is the A-iPower SUA2000iD 2000 Watt Portable Dual Fuel Generator.
7. Drawer Organizer/Dividers
Gone are the days of just stuffing your kitchen utensils in a drawer or cramming your socks and underwear in a drawer.
8. Mattress Topper
Several fellow RVers say one of the most important RV gadgets they purchased was a new mattress topper. Afterall, a good night’s sleep is pretty important. Wal-Mart or Target seem to be the go-to place to pick one of these up. They have some great prices on gel memory foam toppers as well as pillow top mattress toppers.
9. Keurig Coffee Maker
I was surprised to see this so far down on the list. Coffee has to be one of the most important part of my day. Kellie and I use a 12 cup coffee maker in our RV, but many RVers prefer the Keurig Coffee Makers.
10. Alcohol
When asked what the most important item to take camping is, a popular answer was, “Alcohol”. Maybe that’s why the counter-top ice machine is so popular. Ya gotta have ice for your drinks.
My Favorite RV Gadgets
Alright, we have been through the top 10 best RV gadgets of other RVers. The next five are my favorite gizmos and gadgets.
11. Save-A-Step
When we come in or out of our RV, it rocks like crazy when we get to the bottom step. I found the perfect solution. The Save-A-Step brace. Not only does it help stabilize your rig, it also helps in reducing the wear and tear on your RV steps. I have also included this brace in my post 8 Uncommon RV Essentials.
12. Propane Tank Level Indicator
I grew tired of always guessing how much propane was left in a tank, so I got a Propane Tank Level Indicator. Gone are the days of “knocking” on the tank.
13. Blackstone Griddle
I don’t think this RV gadget needs much explanation.
14. Cobra JumPack XL H2O 15000
![]() Cobra JumPack XL H2O CPP 15000 – $119.95 The Cobra JumPack XL H2O is designed to start large V8 gasoline and diesel engines. UL 2743 Safety Standard compliance, heavy-duty jumper cables, multiple start options, and an emergency flashlight means youre good to go in any weather condition. |
